This is the first time James applies for a pension. He states he is 55 years old and ¾ unable to do his job as a farmer due to being crippled. Document provides his military service information. James signed this document. This is two pages long.
15 June 1891 Military Service Slip
Slip lists his military service information for the Bureau of Pensions.
16 June 1891 War Department Record and Pension Division Slip
Slip states James E. Shannon was enrolled in the military May 16, 1863 and M.G. (?) Aug 20, 1865
24 June 1891 Surgeon’s Certificate
This document is two pages long and states James E. Shannon was an Applicant for Original Pension Claim 975223. Date of Examination June 24, 1891. States his current post office is High Prairie, MO. Cause of disability is described. A brief statement about how the injury was received. James stated it occurred about 17 years ago making it around 1874. A full description of the exam is given. It is stated he is entitled to a 10/18 rating for the disability.

Three page document stating a reduction of pension is to be issued. James E. Shannon will not receive a rate higher than $8. Page 2 states a rate of $12 per month was in effect as of Dec 26, 1890. This was approved Oct 20, 1892. Page 3 states his official reduction to $8 per month.
